The COD gravy train of hype churns on, but I'm glad to be along for the ride

It could still fall prone to some of the multiplayer glitches and failures that marred the experience with “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” but as of November 2010, “Call of Duty: Black Ops” is an amazing success and stands as one of the best games of its kind ever released. With the strongest campaign yet produced for a “COD” game along with an insanely-deep multi-player experience, the “Avatar” of gaming franchises continues to reign supreme. Does the game live up to the expectations and hype? Most people buy “Call of Duty” games for the multiplayer experience; the thrill of repeatedly executing the occasional friend but mostly complete strangers around the world. “Black Ops” sets a new bar for multiplayer with incredibly well-designed maps, an amazing variety of game types, smooth gameplay, and a ridiculous degree of player customization.
It sounds incredibly cheesy, but the “Black Ops” multiplayer experience really does provide something for everyone. It may take you some time to find your favorite games, weapons, and other variable elements but that moment when you do is gaming bliss. Unlike “Modern Warfare 2,” the 14 maps of “Black Ops” are simply spectacular. Most multi-player shooter games feature uninspired arenas that are typically too-small for strategy or too big for combat. Striking the right balance is key and almost every map in “Call of Duty: Black Ops” strikes that balance. As for what you’ll play during those dozens of hours, the variety of game types in “Black Ops” is stunning. If the game types alone didn’t provide enough variety, the game also includes a series of challenges and contracts to add their own variety. If you do so, you win 100 points. Most multiplayer games present straightforward upgrade tracks on which every player rides: Get X amount of points, upgrade to X weapon. There has never been a game with the degree of customization as “Black Ops.” Clearly, the key to the success of “Call of Duty: Black Ops” is in its variety and depth. There has never been a deeper multiplayer experience. Finding that kind of depth in something that often feels incredibly shallow makes “Black Ops” one of the most notable multiplayer gaming experiences of the year.

Hey, Don't Believe Me! Believe What Others Said! These Are Several of Awesome Testimonials From The Satisfied Customers!

I have played all the modes of this game, and finished the campaign, it has heavy gore and heavy profanity, (excluding local and online multiplayer). The multiplayer is very fun and fast pace not so much gore, very fun game, highly recomended, not for younger children, but it is in my favorite game in the franchise. Sorry for my errors, I wrote this in a hurry. BoomStar51 - target.com
I don't believe in gushing over games and hailing them as the "Best Game EVAR!", so I'll avoid hyperbole and simply say that Black Ops one of the better FPS games that I've played. If I have any negative feedback, it surrounds some of the difficulty spikes and the dumb-as-bricks AI of your teammates (and some enemies), but that was the same case with Modern Warfare 2 and especially World at War. Black Ops is not a perfect game graphically and it doesn't reinvent the wheel for FPS games, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying experience that I don't regret investing the time or money into. 3volve - amazon.com
Few games draw as much hype and anticipation as Activision Blizzard, Inc.'s (NASDAQ: ATVI) Call of Duty. Call of Duty: Black Ops is no different. Black Ops is beautifully and realistically ruthless. It was visible because the player had failed to hide properly. In any given multiplayer battle, Black Ops is overflowing with these kinds of moments. Whether you're hunting an enemy who has no idea you're there, attacking alongside expert teammates who as skilled at dodging attacks as they are performing headshots, or gunning for a revenge kill by throwing a grenade before taking your last breath, Black Ops offers some of the finest first-person shooting you'll experience this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Wager Match Trailer

Oddly enough though, we’re not tired of waging war and somehow we’ve been wowed yet again. The biggest thing that Call of Duty: Black Ops does right is the game’s story. The game takes place in the 1960s when the arms race and Cold War was really peaking. Without giving too much away, these operations take place in the jungles of a little country called Vietnam. The story itself and thus the game, unfold through a series of missions. It’s just another example of originality and depth regarding the games story. Regarding the combat and gameplay mechanics, Black Ops succeeds, but doesn’t hit the same bull’s eye the story nails down. The action gets hot and heavy at all the right times. The weapons, effects and animations are all a step up from the previous Call of Duty release from Treyarch. Treyarch’s focus on historical accuracies carry over from the story and into the visuals. The same goes for the audio in Black Ops thanks to great scripting, talented voice actors and great direction. Ambient sounds and one of the best soundtracks in gaming combine with the action on screen to deliver some great action. The single player is great, but the meat and potatoes of the Call of Duty franchise is the multiplayer. The action online is already hot and heavy in Black Ops. Call of Duty: Black Ops exceeds the expectations that many of us had set. Black Ops delivers one of the best stories available right now and slathers on a healthy dose of addictive multiplayer gameplay just to make sure you’re happy. If you haven’t already picked this one up, go out and get Call of Duty: Black Ops today.
